WHAT IS TECHNOLOGY-ASSISTED REHABILITATION?
Technology-assisted rehabilitation utilises the newest technology and its applications. Many studies have shown that exercises done in a virtual environment stimulate the brain, increasing motivation to do exercises, and thus moving the rehabilitation process forward. Technology has made the rehabilitation process more efficient, more stimulating and safer by allowing exercises to be more regular, better tailored to the individual, and involving more conscious participation.
Technology-assisted rehabilitation is not only used with neurological rehabilitation patients, but also with pain patients, people suffering from the after effects of various traumas, and those struggling with normal musculoskeletal problems.
Movements can be made with the help of equipment even when people’s own strength and hand coordination are not enough by themselves. The equipment aids in movement exercises, and improves people’s ability to repeat movement tasks. However, the most essential part of technology-assisted rehabilitation is not the devices, but the person.
Pirkanmaa Specialist Rehabilitation’s clinic for technology-assisted rehabilitation is the only clinic in Finland designed for technology-assisted, evidence-based rehabilitation. We have been able to develop a form of rehabilitation that enhances the effect of practise exercises, and provides a new kind of motivation.
WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY-ASSISTED REHABILITATION BASED ON?

WHAT DOES TECHNOLOGY-ASSISTED INVOLVE?
Technology-assisted rehabilitation is very well suited to rehabilitation from neurological symptoms, with the exception of those who have suffered severe debilitating injuries. One of the most typical neurological symptoms is paralysis following cerebrovascular disorders (e.g. strokes), brain injuries or spinal cord injuries. The starting point can also be a nerve metabolism problem, or a symptom of MS or Parkinson’s disease. Neurological symptoms can also be linked to muscle conditions, CP or developmental disabilities.
We believe that the most essential element in technologically-assisted rehabilitation are the people, not the devices. The purpose of the technology and equipment is to make the exercises that people do more sensible, safe and effective. The most important thing for us is that you, our client, genuinely benefit from the exercises. The equipment has been chosen with your rehabilitation in mind, because in our experience, the technology-assisted clinic is a comfortable, motivating and efficient way to train.
